A San Antonio native, Chris grew up on the Southeast side of town where he was a four year letter at Highlands High School. In his time there he earned 4 All District honors, 2  All City honors as a pitcher and an outfielder, as well as 1st team All State honors as a pitcher. Following the 2005 High School season Armijo signed a Division 1 letter of intent committing to Texas State University to play for pitching coach John Maley. Following the 2007 season Armijo stuck with Maley and came home to San Antonio. He transferred to The University of the Incarnate Word to play under former World Series Champion Danny Heep. In 2009 Armijo completed one of the best years in Cardinal history with a record of 12-0 and an ERA of 2.22. He was named Pitcher of the Year in the conference and earned 1st team All Conference, 1st team All Region, and 1st team All American in his senior season. Beginning with his time at Incarnate Word to date Chris has coached select baseball from the ages of 9 to 18 and has developed many programs through private instruction.
